Shali's Tumbling Thoughts

8 awesome mac applications I use daily

My daily activities include designing, web developing, and managing all my web projects. I have found these 8 tools part of my daily life aside from last.fm, photoshop, and adium:

1. xScope

Precision is important sometimes, and xScope helps me achieve this quickly.  Specifically the Loupe tool (to grab the HEX code for anything I mouse over on my screen), and the Dimensions tool for pixel perfect needs.

2. Skitch

To quickly take a screenshot and comment on something I’m looking at and wanting to communicate it with someone else.

3. Textmate

This is my text editor of choice because of all the great bundles and shortcuts that allow me to quickly insert code on multiple lines, select code in a way that other editors just won’t let me usually, and copy/pasting to pastie is hot (shift+control+option+v). Dragging a folder to Textmate for project view is also very convienent!

4. The Hit List

For to-do list tracking, The Hit List has a beautiful UI, great keyboard shortcuts, and is very easy/intuitive to use. I have tried other to-do list features but this application is by far my favorite.  The only drawback is that there is no iPhone app, however I believe that is a work in progress.

5. Dropbox

Dropbox gives each user 2GB of online file storage in a unique way where all you have to do is drop files in your dropbox folder in Finder (or Explorer if you are on a PC). It is great for managing a set of files that will sync across multiple systems.  Also, I love the public folder, where I’m able to drag files into a directory and copy a public URL I can share as needed.  I don’t really have to think about uploading files anywhere anymore. It’s a great alternative to YouSendIt!

6. Tweetie

Tweetie is my twitter desktop app of choice. Pretty UI that’s great for scanning messages.  I also like being able to add multiple accounts and manage them with ease.

7. Colloquy

IRC is used at work, so this is my IRC app of choice just because it’s simple, clean, and gets the job done.

8. Quicksilver

Quickly launch and browse applications/files… Check out this quick tutorial to see a demo and how to install

I know there are a ton of other apps out there but these are the ones I find myself using daily. What mac apps are you all using in your daily lives?
