Moving my tumblr!
Unfortunately Tumblr doesn’t allow you to change your default blog. The default blog’s URL counts as your username and the blog’s icon is your profile photo so I’ve been following/responding/reblogging most of my followers as “glassescats” (my original tumblr blog). I could have renamed glassescats but that would mean I’d have to overwrite the blog…...

Perfection: A blessing or a curse?
I’ve found that my need for perfection has come in handy for a few reasons:
1) The things I make whether it’s design, food, or trip-planning is carefully crafted with a lot of thought and planning, competitive analysis, self-tested and doesn’t go out the door unless I know a majority of those exposed to it would be satisfied.
2) My life feels a little bit more exciting when I...

Reishi Mushrooms cure everything, I'm serious!
If you’re someone who’s been around me enough, you’ve heard me rant and rave about magical mushrooms that can cure anything. No, I’m not talking about some psychedelic drug that takes you on a trip to crazy town; I’m talking about a special mushroom that’s grown in parts of Asia claiming to cure everything from cancer, the flu, diabetes, high cholesterol,...

An obsession for Tea lead me to Steepster
I’ve been drinking a lot of tea lately. I mean I’ve drank tea throughout most of my life but more recently, I guess I’m on this kick where noticing the slight subtle differences across various teas became a fun little hobby. Anyway, throughout this journey of tea exploration, I waltzed into Caffe del Doge while waiting for my train and decided to get some iced tea since the...

Fashion photography of Javier Vallhonrat
After watching The September Issue, I started wandering the web for fashion photography and have now become obsessed. I’ve always passively noticed the beauty on pages of fashion magazines but have never really stopped to look at any specific photographer or style. I decided to run a google search on “best fashion photographer” and landed on a fashion blog mentioning Javier...

Designing on tablet/touch interfaces
I mentioned in my last post that the microsoft surface world is really starting to become a reality. This was posted about a year ago:
Microsoft Sustainability from Hana Ken on Vimeo.
I don’t have much to say other than both of these videos just really blow my mind and make me think about how exciting it is to be a designer in this upcoming world of tablet/touch devices. The...

Why the iPad really is a game changer
A few months ago, I checked into a sleek hotel in downtown LA where there was no check-in tables. Instead, I was told to chill out in a lounge where I was checked-in with sony vaio netbooks. The iPad is a solid opportunity for application developers here because in just a few years, I can imagine the world shifting over and changing to this device (or something similar). The Microsoft surface...

Mechwarrior + World of Warcraft = Avatar (lol!)
Heeey, so James Cameron made this gorgeous movie that is worth every IMAX + 3D penny. Go see it! Unfortunately, a lot of his “visions” were TOO similar to existing properties. Anyway… Here’s some photos of world of warcraft and mechwarrior. :-)
Avatar’s marine machinery:
Looks a bit similar to…
Here’s the Na’vi (from Avatar):

Understanding Typography tools on the web
Back in the day (and I guess still today), typography on the web was limited to these typographic choices:
Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;
‘Trebuchet MS’, Helvetica, sans-serif;
‘Times New Roman’, Times, serif;
Georgia, serif;
Tahoma, Geneva, sans-serif;
‘MS Sans Serif’, Geneva, sans-serif;
‘Lucida Grande’,...

Two Conferences: FOWD 2009 and An Event Apart in...
Recently I attended two web design conferences: Carsonified’s Future of Web Design 2009 and An Event Apart in San Francisco. It was interesting to see all of these opinions on where the web is going and what we, as web developers and designers, should be learning next, or focusing on in terms of providing our clients and producing in the future of our work.
Here was my general takeaway on...

Why Kanye's stunt on MTV's Video Music Awards was...
When I first discovered this whole fiasco on the Twitter streams, I decided to watch the MTV Video Music Awards to learn about what the ruckus was all about. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can see it here: http://www.mtv.com/videos/misc/435995/taylor-swift-wins-best-female-video.jhtml
Anyway, at first I thought, OK this is Kanye being insane again. Then as I continued to watch and do some...

12 delicious street food vendors using Twitter...
Street food + twitter, what a magical combination! Twitter allows for food announcements randomness. You love their food? So follow them to know when you can have some! Below is a listing of some interesting street food vendors who have utilized the power of twitter to announce locations, menu changes, time they’ll be open, and more… LA gets a little bit fancier than SF. ;-) (Note: I...
However, if I’m in a shitty mood when they inevitably ask “What do you design,”...

Twitter's attempt to prevent identity theft
I noticed a little something different today when I browsed over to Kevin Rose’s Twitter page. Take a look:
Verified account!?! What’s this? So I click on it and learn a bit more:
What is a verified account?
To prevent identity confusion, Twitter is experimenting (beta testing) with a ‘Verified Account’ feature. We’re working to establish authenticity with people...

Just for a bit of personal research purposes, I’m curious… Why do you follow me on Twitter? (And if you don’t follow me, you should by clicking here.) I am interested in the reason why you initially decided to click the “follow” button next to my name. :)
Please only answer this poll if you are following me on Twitter.

8 awesome mac applications I use daily
My daily activities include designing, web developing, and managing all my web projects. I have found these 8 tools part of my daily life aside from last.fm, photoshop, and adium:
1. xScope
Precision is important sometimes, and xScope helps me achieve this quickly. Specifically the Loupe tool (to grab the HEX code for anything I mouse over on my screen), and the Dimensions tool for pixel perfect...
8 reasons why Twitter can benefit you
I’m sure you’ve heard about Twitter by now. But just in case, Twitter is a social utility that allows anyone to post up to 140 characters about anything. In essence, it started with just status updates and now has evolved to real-time news, music sharing, conference conversing, meeting new people, and more. The concept is so simple yet so dynamic, and still very new to where marketers...
Blogging again
I had a wordpress blog once, until I didn’t pay attention and where I was hosting the blog decided to delete itself. I attempted to bring back a wordpress blog a few times but got too lazy. I really like Tumblr’s quick and easy blogging interface. Now begins a journey where I will blog about random findings, design, advertising, social media tid bits, and more. I do this on Twitter...
